SUMMARY | The SK council of Barangay Natumolan came up with an idea to help our frontliners and selected fellow youths in the barangay by giving them snacks, face masks, food packs, hygiene kits and other materials needed in every checkpoint within the barangay. Since the SK council has only allocated 15,000 pesos to Disaster Risk Reduction Program, the council decided during the regular session last March 28, 2020 to make a resolution realigning the SK budget by using the funds allocated to some of the barangay’s fiesta activities and add them to the Disaster Risk Reduction Program. The purchasing of the materials and items took place last April 1, 2020. On April 3, 2020 the council began repacking the goods which were distributed to the recipients starting April 5, 2020. The council, together with the SK secretary and SK treasurer and some of the active youth leaders in the barangay, were then given zonal assignments and these are the following: 1. Mencias (SK chairperson) - Zone 21A, Zone 21B, Maribojoc 2. Morales (SK kagawad) - Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 3 3. Rodriguez (SK kagawad) - Zone 6A, Zone 6B, Zone 5 4. Labial (SK kagawad) & Nacua (youth leader) - Zone 9, Zone 10, Zone 11 5. Cabanday (SK kagawad) - Zone 14, Zone 15, Zone 19 6. Batican & Usman (SK secretary & treasurer) - Zone 16, Zone 17, Zone 18 7. Roa (SK Kagawad) & Ejem (youth leader) - Zone 12, Zone 13, Zone 20A & 20B 8. Dalugdug & Nacua (youth leaders) - Zone 4, Zone 7, Zone 8
The council prepared 208 food packs to which each pack contained 4 canned goods, 2 packs of 26 grams Birch Tree, 3 sachets Milo, and 1 pack of 20 grams coffee. Each zone has 8-9 food packs to be received by selected youths (active leaders, single young parent, and indigent). Meanwhile, the hygiene kits to which each kit contains 1 zonrox, 1 bottle of alcohol, and 1 bar of safeguard were also given to the frontliners who also received face masks and snacks from the council. Some other youth and residents in the barangay whom we have passed by the road during the distribution also received hygiene kits. There were a total of 200 face masks and 200 kits produced and distributed. The distribution of the kits took place on May 4, 2020.

INSIGHTS | After all the activities were done, some of the members of the SK council made an evaluation and have answered few guide questions regarding the activities. Here are the collective insights that were taken from their evaluation:
1. What were your thoughts or your reflections while we were doing the whole activity? (from purchasing to repacking to distribution) - For the SK’s, it wasn’t just the organization’s achievement but also a life achievement for we were able to execute good service to the people in our barangay. We were able to help the frontliners, healthcare workers, and some residents especially those who are highly affected by the community quarantine and made them happy through our simple ways despite the budget constraints. We are glad that at least we made them feel that we truly work and care for them. By that, people will learn to appreciate the efforts of the government, especially the SKs, and will learn to abide the laws implemented during this quarantine.
2. Do you have suggestions or recommendations if this activity will happen again in the future? - All the SKs and volunteers should work together. There should be more manpower to have a more productive activity. In order to have a systematize organization, the first thing that we must consider ourselves is the word READINESS. We should be committed and ready enough to give time and space for the people. We should be working with unity, perseverance, willingness and faith that no matter what worries/problems we encounter in our organization, we stand as one and we work as one even with limited resources. - Allocate more funds to disaster preparedness or emergency situation programs. - We should reach out more to the people or youth who live in far-flung areas of the barangay.
3. What more do we still need to do or to improve to have a better service to the young people? - More team buildings for the youth to enhance their potentials and capacities. - Conduct seminars about the pandemic and emergency situations. - Conduct programs to attract more youth and encourage them to actively participate in the community and appreciate the importance of community-building. - Continue being a good role model to the youth.
4. From 5 being the highest and 1 being the lowest, rank the service that we have recently done. - We got an average rate of 4 out of 5 from the members of the council. - We feel satisfied considering all the efforts and time spent from purchasing to repacking to distribution. It wasn’t easy but we believe that it was all worth it. What made us feel more fulfilled was seeing the joy in the people’s faces and their genuine gratitude to us when we were helping them. Through our own little ways, we made them feel cared. “Bahala’g ginagmay na tabang basta tinooray.” We are also thankful to our partners who helped us fulfill our project: the LGU of Tagoloan, Barangay Council of Natumolan, Local Youth Development Office and YouRHealth Tagoloan for their guidance and encouragement in making these activities successful. |
